Traditionally, in honor of the holiday, Ukrainians receive an additional day off, but this year, due to martial law, it was canceled. History of the Ukrainian Constitution: The Basic Law of Ukraine was adopted in 1996, five years after the country gained independence. More than 300 people's deputies worked on the project all day and night from 27 to 28 June. The adoption of the Constitution was preceded by six years of labors, consultations, discussions and negotiations.

In the introductory part of the basic law, it is noted that members of parliament adopted it on behalf of the people - citizens of Ukraine of all nationalities.

Since then, every year on this day, Ukrainians celebrate Constitution Day. This is the only public holiday that is spelled out in the most basic law.

During 1990-1996, 15 drafts of the Constitution were developed. Disputable issues were the division of powers of power, national symbols, the status of the Russian language, Crimea and private property.
