Ternopil’ is a city in western part of Ukraine. It is an economic, business and cultural center of the Ternopil’area. The beauty of Ternopil’region is glorified and described by songers, poets and artists. Many famous people of Ukraine were born here.
Ternopil’ is located on picturesque banks of the river Seret. Moreover, there is a lake in the center of city, that makes Ternopil’ more attractive for visitors.
The name Ternopil’ comes from words “ternove” (sloe) “pole” (field) because of legend that says that in old times blackthorn was grown all around the city (“blackthorn” in ukrainian sounds like “teren”).
Ternopil’ is a comfortable city of hospitable people.

Presently a lot of the artist's famous paintings are kept here in Nikolaev in a museum that bears his name. In an observatory constructed in 1821 is a unique collection of devices for the observation of celestial bodies. If you are interested in history of our city you should visit regional museum. Workers of museum will tell you everything about our region and will answer for all your questions. Then you may visit cultural and architectural monuments (with a guide of course!).
After that you will need a rest. It’s not a problem!
Lot’s of beautiful and cozy cafes will make peaceful atmosphere for you and your friend or a girl where you can taste delicious national or European dishes and will drink aromatic coffee or tea.
Than you may go shopping. Services of different shops & supermarkets are offered for you! You can choose there everything you want!

There two big entertaining complexes in Ternopil’ – “Podolyany” & “Alligator”. There you may have dinner or supper, buy everything you need and main thing - spend good time there.
Podolyany is the biggest entertaining complex in Western Ukraine.
It is huge building which is located in the end of the city. You may spend there whole day & night with a great pleasure! You will be able to skate on a big skating ring, play big or small tennis and play billiard(pool) or bowling. You can taste delicious pizza, salad, ice cream, drink cocktails there. If you like dishes from Chinese kitchen you’ll be glad to see there sushi bar. Services of the biggest beer club are offered for you. Also you are welcome to party bar “XL”. Dj will fulfill all your music wishes. Are you lucky person? Do you want to check it? In that case you have to visit casino. You won’t be sorry! Alligator is a second entertaining complex in Ternopil’. It has interesting places too. First of all you will find first under covering aqua park in Ukraine there. A lot of citizens and guests of our city like to visit it. It is cool to swim in a warm pool during cold winter. If you are hungry - services of restaurant are offered for you too. You will be able to play billiard or bowling there. Have you ever being in Ukrainian bath house? No? You can try it! There is a wonderful bath house in Alligator where you will make yourself healthier. Disco bar here opens at the evening. Many young & beautiful girls visit it.

After 10 p.m. night life begins! Night life in Ternopil’is also rich and beautiful. You can visit different clubs with billiards (pool), casinos and restaurants. In many places there are Live Music concerts (even in open air stages) till the late night. There are a lot of night & disco clubs in Ternopil’: “XL” which is located in “Podolyani”, “Alligator”, “Marakana”, “Ibiza”, “Maxim” which is located on the bank of the lake, “Black berry” and many others. History of Ternopil'

From generation to generation people who live in Ternopil’ pass legend about foundation of our city. Long ago an ancient, protected from every quarter with waters and billows, city was on territory of present Ternopil’. His most pride was a fortress which pointed horror on enemies and guarded rest of citizens. Merchants from different towns arrived here with a dear commodity and enjoyed hospitality of owners.
Although Ternopil’date of foundation is unknown, the first known reference to Ternopil’occurs in 1524, when as a Polish town it was sacked by Tatars. Ternopil’was known as a fortress. At the end of the 16 century the fraternity was organized which played an important part in the struggle against Catholicism.
In 1548 Magdeburg Law was adopted in Ternopil.
In 1655 the Cossack troops headed by B.Khmelnytskyy captured Ternopil. But Ternopil’city was under Poland's control.
On first partition of Poland in 1772 Ternopil’was captured by Austria. In 1809-1815 Ternopil’was ruled by Russia. After the fall of Austro-Hungary Ternopil’was passed to Poland in 1920 and was annexed by the USSR in 1939. World War II inflicted exceptionally heavy damage on Ternopil. And now in our city you can find different monuments in commemoration of the war victims.
Nowadays most of Ternopil’is new, but the 16th century Nativity and 18th century Dominican churches survived. So it is very beautiful to see the combination of modern city and old buildings.

 

Culture

Ternopil’is known all over Ukraine as one the cities where you can meet every day people in national clothes. It is very honourable to were it and many young people like to do this very much. No one city national or religious holiday does not pass without national colours in the cloths on citizens.
Also you can find lot's of restaurants here decorated in national style.

Culture in Ternopil’region is presented by the network of libraries, houses of culture, museums and theaters.
Over one thousand libraries operate in region, 11 million copies of books and magazines are counted in them.
There are two theatres in Ternopil’ – drama theatre & puppet-show. There you can enjoy remarkable performances for adults and children. Many artists of Ternopil’region try to get there and play the show.
Three museums work in region – regional museum in Ternopil’, museums in Kremenec’ and Berezhany.
Also there are two cinemas in Ternopil’. Modern halls are equipped with big screens and wonderful sound.
A lot monuments take one’s place in our city. They remind citizens about outstanding Ukrainian and foreign figures which made great payment in a history of our native land.

Parks

Ternopil’parks are one of the best parts of the city and on of the most magnificent. We have four amazing parks which continue each other and in the same way make our city more charm and beautiful. Park of National revival is situated on the east side of the city and has huge open air stage where all city holidays are held.
National Park of Fame is the continue first park and is dedicated to our national heroes who died during Second World War. Park Topil’che and Park Shevchenka are located around the lake and make these landscape very magnificent and unusual for every city guests. Even one foreigner after visiting our city said: “During all my life I saw parks in the cities, beautiful parks, amazing parks. But I have never seen the city in the park. you're lucky to live in such city”
There are much merry-go-rounds in every park. But Topil'che is the most selected and most attractive for visitors. It’s because of zoo that is located on the territory of the park. You can find different beautiful birds there, like white & black swans, peacocks, ostriches and many others. If you are lucky you’ll also meet deer, roe deer, pony there.
Many Ukrainian singers come to Ternopil. They always give their concerts on Spivoche pole (singing field) which is located in Park Vidrodzenia. It is main place in this park. Another interesting thing that you can find here is Chortove coleso (View circle). It is BIG circle that turn around. When you are on top of this circle you see all town. It’s amazing!
Streets of city are planted enough with trees and shrubs too. Moreover there are much flower-beds in every public garden. During summer period many fountains entertain kids and make happy their parents.
Yes, Ternopil’is not very “high” city and that’s why trees make such amazing picture around all city. And it is small city so you can just walk around it, rest and enjoy it’s beauty.

 

Lake

There is a lake in the center of Ternopil’. It is a main feature of our city. In winter you can go skating on lake. In hot summer if you need coolness you may sit near the water and enjoy sun & wind. During 70 years motor-ship “Hero Tancorov” works on lake. Captain of the ship with a great pleasure invites all interested persons on this machine. Only for 6 grivnas (0.8 $) you can realize an unforgettable trip on a lake. Also you can use services of yacht “Svetlana”, captain of witch will show you the best places of Ternopil’s lake. Fountain on lake was made last year. It makes happy all people who stand near it.
If you want to have sunbathe or just spend good time you must go to the beach. Hot send will make you relax. You can get there by motor-ship through the lake or by car. There is a forest behind the beach. Time goes faster there while you enjoy fresh air, beautiful nature and sound of waves on the lake. If you close your eyes you’ll feel yourself like a small part in the center of the Universe. We're sure that you won’t be sorry if you’ll spend there all day long!
There is a special place on the lake. Its name is Island of love. Two people can enjoy loneliness there, nobody will interfere their associating. Young people of Ternopil’who fall in love adore this place & spend there all evenings long.

 

Climate

Climate in Ternopil’is perfect for its geographical position. Even though it might be very cold in winter and very hot in summer, there is no other place in the world with such beautiful autumn and spring. And special beautiful seasons of every year you can watch in our beautiful lake around which are our marvellous parks. Maybe that is the reason why most weddings occur here in autumn, summer and spring!

In almost each street there is a banking machine where you can easily use your MasterCard, Visa, EuroCard and most of the available around the world nowadays cards. There are comfortable daily trains to Ternopil’from Kiev (465 km) or Lviv (127 km).
