History

The city traces its history to 1795, when the British industrialist Charles Gascoigne founded a metal factory there. It was the beginning of an industry that still thrives there today. In 1795 the construction of an iron foundry started on the banks of the Luganka. It was the beginning of the city of Lugansk. Lugansk factory produced cannons for the Russian Black Sea Navy. The industrial boom caused a considerable re-settlement of peasants from other Ukrainian regions and from the Russian black soil areas. he abolition of serfdom in 1861 accelerated the industrial development. New settlements, factories and railroads were built. In 1900 locomotive-building factory was dedicated which soon became Russia's biggest factory of such kind.

Culture

Lugansk is recognized as an important cultural and educational center. Lugansk is a city with a long history and there are a number of monuments you can see here, to the famous citizens and in memory of those people who gave there life to the city and the country during WWII. Also there is a collection of ancient sculptures which were found during the archeological researches in Lugansk area their age is more than thousands years.

Lugank has number of wonderful parks which gives a place to rest and take a walk, the most beautifully they look in spring when lilac bushes and chestnut trees are blossoming. May it is a perfect time to enjoy this wonderful view.

Climate

Lugansk has typical continental climate where you can find all four seasons, the average temperature in June is +22C and for January -8C/ But sometimes during summer the temperature can reach +40C and -30C during winter time. But this is not typical and happens not every year.

There are number of banks which accept travelers checks and where you can exchange almost any currency of the world. Also in most of the restaurants and entertainment centers credit cards are accepted.

Transportation

The distance between Kiev and Lugansk is nearly 900 km, and you can get here by plane (2 hours flight) by train (overnight trip) and by bus(it might take about 8 hours). If you are traveling from the other city you can also surely find the way to get here by bus or by train.
